10 questions to ask your wedding videographer before booking

Choosing a wedding videographer can feel like a shot in the dark, especially when the films all look lovely on the surface. These are the questions that actually tell you who is right for your day, along with how I would answer each one.
1. Are you available on my date?
Start here, because everything else only matters if the date is open. Good videographers take one wedding a day, so ask early.
2. Can I watch a full film, not just a highlight?
Anyone can cut a pretty one-minute social teaser. Ask to see a complete film from start to finish. That is where you see if they can actually tell a story and hold it together.
3. What is your style?
Cinematic, documentary, traditional, or a blend? Make sure it matches the feel you want. Mine is documentary at heart, real moments over staged ones, with a cinematic finish.
4. How do you handle audio?
This is the one most couples forget, and it is the most important. Ask how they capture your vows and speeches. A beautiful film with muffled audio is one you will not rewatch. I treat sound as seriously as the picture.
5. What exactly is included, and how many hours?
Get it in writing: hours of coverage, which films you receive, drone, and anything extra. No surprises later.
6. Do you work alone or with a second shooter?
Both can work. I film solo, which keeps your day personal and unobtrusive, and I plan my coverage so nothing important gets missed. For very large weddings, some couples like a second camera, so it is worth asking.
7. What is your backup plan if gear fails?
Professionals carry backup cameras, audio, and storage. Ask, because a wedding cannot be re-shot.
8. When will I get my film?
Ask for a real timeline. Mine is usually six to eight weeks, and I will always tell you honestly.
9. How do you work with the photographer?
Your photographer and videographer share the day. Ask how they coordinate, so you never feel pulled between two crews. I stay out of the way and let the photographer lead the posed moments.
10. What happens if you are sick or there is an emergency?
A good answer shows they take your day seriously and have a plan.
