Can you choose the music for your wedding video?

Music is a huge part of what makes a wedding film feel the way it does, so it is natural to want your favourite song in there. The honest answer to "can I pick the music" is: sometimes, but there is an important catch worth understanding.

Why your favourite chart song is tricky

Popular, famous songs are protected by copyright. Using one in a film without the proper licence is not actually legal, and beyond that, platforms like YouTube and Instagram will often mute or block a video that uses a big commercial track. So even if a videographer added your favourite radio song, there is a real chance you could not share the film online. That is not a great outcome for something you will want to send to everyone.

What good videographers use instead

This is why most professional wedding filmmakers, myself included, use properly licensed music from libraries made for exactly this. It sounds beautiful, it fits the mood, and it will never get your film muted or taken down. A well-chosen licensed track can move you just as much as a song you already know.

What if a song really matters to you?

Tell me. If there is a song that is meaningful to your story, let me know early and I will see what is possible. Sometimes a song can be licensed, and there are also lovely licensed covers of popular songs that capture the feeling without the legal headache. The music of your actual day, your vows, your first dance, your speeches, always stays in your film too.
