How far in advance should you book your wedding videographer?

Short answer: as soon as you have your date and venue locked in. For most couples that means booking your videographer around nine to twelve months out. For popular summer and early-fall Saturdays in the Ottawa Valley, twelve to eighteen months ahead is not unusual.
Why videographers book up
Most of us only take one wedding per day, and often a limited number per year so that every film gets proper attention. That means once a date is gone, it is gone. The busy dates, long weekends and peak-season Saturdays, tend to be claimed first, sometimes well over a year ahead.
What if your wedding is soon?
Do not assume it is too late. Dates open up, and not every weekend fills a year in advance, especially outside peak season. If your wedding is only a few months away, reach out anyway. The worst case is a quick no, and more often than you would think, the date is still open.
How booking usually works
For most videographers, myself included, a date is not held until a deposit is in. The steps are simple: reach out with your date and venue, have a quick call to make sure we are a good fit, then a signed agreement and a deposit lock it in. After that, your date is yours.
If you have a date in mind, the single best thing you can do is ask early. It costs nothing, and it is the only way to be sure.
